Fat Burning Foods: Negative Calorie Foods for Weight Loss

Published by:

Foods that can emulsify fats are known as negative calorie foods and this is due to the food’s ability to burn calories. These foods do not add to your calorie count and are helpful in burning more calories and fats, thus if you are trying to lose weight fast these foods should be included in your diet. Here are some of the best fat burning foods that can help you lose weight and burn fats:

  • Fruits: fruits that contain high amounts of vitamin C are helpful when it comes to burning fats. This is because the vitamin C contained in these fruits can help stimulate the production of an acid known as carnitine and this acid is helpful in burning fats and calories. Fruits that contain high amounts of vitamin C include oranges, lemons, tomatoes, grapes, apricots, tangerines, cranberries, cantaloupe, cherries, peaches, pears, strawberries, prunes, and watermelon.
  • Vegetables: there are certain vegetables that can help flush out fatty acid deposits within the body. These vegetables also contain antioxidants that can help boost the body’s immune system. These vegetables can also help boost the body’s metabolism to increase the rate of fat burning. These vegetables include cabbages, beet, broccoli, carrot, spinach, green beans, Brussels sprouts, radishes, turnips, sauerkrauts, pumpkins, onions, papaya, garlic, parsley, eggplant, corn, mushrooms, and lettuce.

Aside from the list of fruits and vegetables given above, other foods can help burn fats and calories as well. These foods are usually high in protein and are great for maintaining the body’s overall health as well. These foods include oatmeal, eggs, fish, chicken, salmon, tuna, turkey, lean meat, legumes, whole grains, low fat yogurt, cereals, green tea, skim milk, and black coffee.

By following simple losing weight tips and incorporating these negative calorie foods into your diet, you will be able to lose weight in a healthier way. It is also essential to maintain a healthy diet along with these foods to maintain your body’s health. Take note that since these foods are all natural, you do not have to worry about side effects, however, make sure to consume these in moderation and make sure that your meals are well balanced. If you are not aware of how you should prepare your diet menus along with these foods, then you may seek the advice of a dietitian to help you out. Dietitians can devise a menu plan for you that you can use as a pattern to start a healthy diet and to achieve your fitness goal.

Is Weight Loss Really All in the Mind?

Published by:

If you’ve ever spent countless hours thinking about how you’ll one day get curves like sexy Latina Sofia Vergara or rock-hard abs like LL Cool J (Did I mention he’s in his 40s?), then you’re already on your way to your weight loss goal.

According to a new study released in the journal “Psychology and Health”, visualization helps stimulate better eating habits which eventually leads to weight loss. One hundred and seventy-seven students at the McGill University in Canada were asked to make a concrete plan about what they are going to eat for the week, focusing specifically on their fruit intake. The study found that “making an action plan and visualizing yourself carrying it out will help you reach your goals”.

In a span of a week the students were asked to visualize what kind of fruit they were going to eat, where they were going to get the fruit, and how they were going to prepare the fruit before eating it. The results were highly favourable, with those who did the visualization exercise eating an average of 3.85 servings of fruit a day as compared to those that didn’t do any visualization eating only 2.23 servings of fruit a day.

As explained by researcher Barbel Knauper, professor of psychology at McGill University, the study proves that those with a solid diet plan are “better at acting on their intentions.” Of course this visualization exercise is not just applicable to increasing fruits in your diet. The technique can also be applied to your existing diet, for example, if you want to include more fat burning foods in your diet then just visualize filling your shopping cart with food proven to have a fat burning effect such as apples, pears, mangoes, cabbage, and chicken and then making a healthy salad when you get home.

Trans Fats Linked to Depression

Published by:

It’s not a secret that obesity can lead to more serious ailments such as heart attacks, developing diabetes and contracting some types of cancers, which is why America has been obsessed with finding ways to lose belly fat. But recent studies show that obesity can also affect our mental health.

According to a study conducted among 12,000 Spanish university graduates in the course of six years time, students who consumed more trans fats than their peers were at a greater risk of being diagnosed with depression.

Trans fat, commonly found in junk food has been found to raise one’s level of bad cholesterol which makes it one of the primary causes for an increase in numbers of coronary heart disease. In fact in a previous study it was estimated that trans fats caused more than 20,000 deaths in a year in the US alone from heart disease.

And this could be where a vicious cycle of depression and living an unhealthy lifestyle may form. Dr. Valerie Taylor, mental health lead at the Canadian Obesity Network and assistant professor at St. Joseph’s Healthcare cites that those who are sickly will likely be depressed and those who are depressed similarly care less about their health.

All over the world, depression affects an estimated 151 million people with bad eating habits cited as one of the factors that might have caused or contributed to the depression. Given this, health experts such as Dr. Miguel Angel Martinez-Gonzalez, professor of preventive medicine at Spain’s University of Navarra and co-author of the study mentioned above suggests that including a healthy dose of olive oil and Omega-3 – also considered as fat burning foods – in your diet can help negate the effects of trans fats.

Fun Weight Loss Tips

Published by:

Who said that losing weight can’t be fun?  There are many different things you can do to enhance the time you spend trying to lose weight and become more active and healthy.  I’ll try to cover some more unique weight loss tips instead of the ones you have heard before.

My number one tip to get more active is to try geocaching.  If you are anything like me, the thought of mindlessly doing cardio at the gym, whether it is an aerobics class or a treadmill is terrible.  Even when I try to do it and watch television or read, I still can’t keep it going for long.  Geocaching makes outdoor exercise fun, and all you need is an inexpensive GPS system.   Basically it makes an ordinary trail walk or hike into an awesome treasure hunt which truly makes things exciting!  You can find really cool caches and great views, and even make some own yourself.

Another tip to make losing weight fun is to try and cook one awesome meal per week.  Incorporate different fat burning foods from around the world through use of different spices.  Spicy food is known to speed up your metabolism while you are in the digestive process.  So make it a treat for your family, friends, or coworkers and start up a great tradition.  You will look forward to your healthy cooking because of the different cultural foods you can experience.  Plus, you can always make extra and freeze them for multiple dinners or lunches.

Lastly, I am a big fan of setting goals.  For every ten pounds I lose I like to reward myself with a treat, and this treat is NEVER food.  One time though, the treat was a cooking demonstration/class but it was focused on healthy eating, not overindulgence.  After the weight is off you can treat yourself for other maintaining goals such as going to the gym consistently all month, or keeping your goal weight for 6 months, or successfully completing a marathon!

This recipe is also high in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, thanks to the tuna and high in healthy fats, thanks to the avocado.  This together with the whole-wheat roll will keep you full for a long time. You can add a salad to keep you even fuller. Just make sure that if you add a salad that you use a low fat salad dressing and that you skip the croutons and the full cream feta cheese.
